We encourage our members, their families and close friends, to participate in the Magna Charta 800th Anniversary Tour hosted by the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons. Our Society hosted about 200 for 750th Anniversary (1965) at Runnymede.It is not necessary to be a member to participate. We welcome all who are interested in the Magna Charta. As space is limited I encourage you to sign up ASAP possibly using a credit card to speed up the process. The 5% cash discount would still apply for the payment of the balance. There are two parts of the Tour, the start page is for the first 6 nights (including June 15, 2015 at Runnymede) and there is a link to the Post Extension for 3 nights within that page. I encourage you to review the details of the Tour offered by Gate1 Travel who is the seller of travel. The dates are June 12, 2015 to June 19, 2015 or June 12, 2015 to June 22, 2015.
 
We will add additional options separately priced, some in the planning process, some dependent on the size of our group and some which may involve deposits. Signing up for the additional options will only be available for those who are participarting in the basic package.

 Educational Tour June 12 - June 22, 2015

Friday June 12th 2015

   Departure from the U.S.A. for England. Your flight includes meals, drinks and in-flight entertainment for your journey. A number of participants joined us in London.

Saturday June 13th 2015

   Arrive at Heathrow Airport in England.   The Tour Manager will coordinate prearranged transfers to Egham, near Runnymede and Windsor or transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the festive Annual Magna Charta Celebrations at Egham and assemble at a prearranged place for transport to your hotel in London.

 Optional for those people already in England: In the morning stroll across Green Park to watch the TROOPING OF THE COLOUR.   Many members of the Royal Family attend this ceremony, which commemorates the official birthday of Her Majesty The Queen. This is an amazing spectacle, showing the best of  British pomp and ceremony!

   Lunch and afternoon at leisure.

   A welcome dinner  enabled each participants to be briefly introduced.

   Overnight in London.   Welcome Dinner.

Sunday June 14th 2015

   The basic package includes a day at leisure in London and transportation to Runnymede.

    Guests not attending the Unveiling will visit the Festiva at Royal Holloway University.

    All then visit the Peagant held at Runnymede.

    Optional (SP):  Unveiling Ceremony of the Jubilee Statue of HM the Queen at Runnymede. Hosted by The Worshipful The Mayor of Runnymede Cllr Derek Cotty in the presence of The High Sheriff of Surrey, Mrs. Elizabeth Kennedy, The Speaker of the House of Commons, The Rt Hon John Bercow, MP, The Rt. Hon Philip Hammond MP, Foreign Secretary and Daniel Hannan, MEP and Nirjl Deva, MEP. Also with the Bugles and Band of the Rifles.

The program began at the Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel, with coffee and Champagne, boat transportation up the Thames River to the Runnymede Pleasure Grounds. Following the unveiling Ceremony, return to the hotel by boat and reception and a traditional English Luncheon, with wines from England and South Africa. The menu included Medeival Boards, Salad from the Royal Forst of Dean, The Kings Lamb, a Trio of Dessert and Petit Fours. The Luncheon included Welcome by Mayor Cotty, Grace by the High Sheriff Elizabeth Kennedy, the Loyal Toast by The Honorable Niranjan Dean, the Toast to the Guests by the Honorable Philip Hammond, The Toast to the Magna Carta by the Honorable Daniel Hannon and the Guests Response.

    Dinner at liesure.

   Early morning (5:30 AM) departure for Runnuymede and the 800th Anniversary.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, this morning visited Runnymede on the occasion of the Eight Hundredth Anniversary of the Sealing of Magna Carta and were received at Runnymede Meadows by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey (Dame Sarah Goad), The Duke of Cambridge, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lord Dyson (Master of the Rolls), the Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP (Prime Minister), the Rt. Hon. Philip Hammond MP (Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and Member of Parliament for Runnymede) and the Mayor of Runnymede.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by The Duke of Cambridge and The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, listened to a choral performance and speeches delivered by the Master of the Rolls, the Prime Minister and the Archbishop of Canterbury and met representatives from organisations associated with the event.

I was honored to represent our Society and to be presented to Her Majesty.

   Early departure for those returning to Heathrow and to the United States.

  Depart from the hotel by coach to drive to BURY ST. EDMUNDS for a tour and view the shields of the Barons donatedby members of our Society

Luncheon at the Athaneum at Bury St. Edmunds. The Anthenaem was a luncheon venuw of members of our Society in 1965. Our guests included the Honorable Margaret Charlesworth, Former Mayor of Bury St. Edmunds and Chair of the Bury St., Edmunds 800th Committee and Mr. Charlesworth. We were welcomed by the Mayor of Bury St., Edmunds.

Saturday June 21th 2015

   Day in the Salisbury area.

    Visit Stonehenge. We had an eaqrly start for the first Tour as it was the day before the Summer Solstace and the Stonehenge guides expected 40,0000 Drtuids and Peppineds.

  Visit Old Sareum. When we visited there were interpreters in period costune and a play about the Magna Charta.

   Visit Salisbury Cathedral for tours and lunch. View the Salisbury Magna Carta Exhibits and the Salisbury Magna Carta.

 

    On return view the home of the Duke of Norfolk and the limestone carvings.

   Visit Kent

    Attend Sung Eucharist in the Quire at Canterbury Cathedral followed by welcome from the Dean Of Canterbury.
